Laurna Joyce is a native Oklahoman, who grew up in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska. As an international traveler, she has been to parts of Mexico, Canada and Asia. She is the daughter of Virgil Bledsoe and Mary French. She lives with her husband, Robert and has two children and five grandchildren Jessica, Kalea, Brooke, Kelsey and Coby. She has always had a respect for spiritual beliefs and throughout her life she has had a love for animals with an admiration for the American Indians. She is a member of Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc., Mounds Historical Society - Mounds, Oklahoma and Sumner County Historical Society - Gallatin, Tennessee.
Besides writing, she enjoys drawing and painting. She painted the book covers for the Mahala series. Although she wrote this series for preteens, many adults have purchased them for their enjoyment. Inside each book on the first page is her original pencil drawing signed by her pen name for art and singing. She uses pen, ink, pastels, acrylic and oil. She also enjoys working with clay and wood sculpture. She often sings at her local church. A past member of bluegrass & gospel groups, she also enjoys country music. Her most favorite moments are bringing her characters to life by creating stories about their lives.
